Metrodata offer a range of ethernet extension products which enable you to connect your local area network (LAN)/ Ethernet over a wide area network (WAN) without the need for expensive and complex routers to another local area network. An example application would be to connect a remote office network to the headquarters over an external network. Metrodata also offer more sophisticated ethernet extension and ethernet convergence products.
Metrodata offer various solutions with there ethernet extender family:
- The WAN-in-a-Can family extend the plug and play functionality of LAN switches to connect over a wide area network
- The MetroLAN family offer the ability to connect up to 8 LANs together over a SDH network
- The LH1000 overs Ethernet over HSSI and serial interfaces, primarily designed to transmit LAN frames over satellite links via serial modems.
- The LV2000 overs Ethernet extension over LVDS (EIA644), Crypto and satellite modems
The Metrodata WAN-in-a-Can range of ethernet extender products extend LAN connection over a wide area link. Available for the following:
The MetroLAN-1000 provides a low cost SDH access point for E1, T1, E3, DS3 or Metro Ethernet (EOS) services. The Metro-LAN product family initially comprises two products, The entry level MetroLAN-1000 offers multiplexing of upto 8 Fast Ethernet and 8 E1/T1 ports onto a single OC-3/STM-1. The MetroLAN-2000 supports the 8 Fast Ethernet and 8 E1/T1 ports but also offers upto 3 E3/DS3 ports. The range will soon increase bring support for Gigabit Ethernet.
The Metrodata LH1000 is designed to enable the transmission of LAN frames across satellite links via serial modems. The LAN interface is auto-sensing and supports 10M, 100M, full or half duplex working. Manual selection of 100BaseT FD operation enables connection to fixed configuration router ports. The LH1000 supports a high speed HSSI port which operates at up to 110Mbps, and a medium speed multi-serial port which operates at up to 20Mbps over EIA530, RS449, X.21 and V.35, plus at lower rates over RS232.
The LVDS DTE port can operate at asymmetric speeds since it is clocked using the DCE supplied Send & Receive Timing signals. The LVDS port is presented on a 25-way D-type male connector and supports data rates of up to 52Mbps. The LV2000 also offers Crypto Resync capability.
